Hello and welcome to my web portfolio! My name is Kelsey Elliott and I am a teacher in the province of New Brunswick with a certificate V. It is hard to believe that I have been teaching for about 6 years now! The first four years were spent supply teaching in the Fredericton area and then the Saint John area. I have held three D contracts to date, and am currently teaching grade 8 FI Math and ELA. I never thought I'd be teaching Math, but I really enjoy it.
During my first internship at Fredericton High School I had the opportunity to teach grade 10 Ancient and Medieval History, grade 112 Modern European History, and grade 120 Canadian History. I thoroughly enjoyed teaching all of these subjects. It is very rewarding to see students become as excited about the study of History as I was at their age. A lot of times students ask "Why bother studying this stuff?" I like to show them how interesting and relevant the study of History is to their own lives.
As I mentioned, I also have a major in English, and during my second internship I taught grade 7 Language Arts at Nashwaaksis Middle School. I created and taught two units - short stories and creative writing. It was really fun to see the students become engaged in both reading and writing short stories. There were some students who started out saying "I could never write a good short story," and then surprised themselves with what they could accomplish.
I want to be a teacher who inspires and encourages and lifts up her students. I want to help any student that I can. Even if I can help one student to succeed in something they never would have thought possible, I'll consider myself satisfied.
